Setting Up My Samsung Galaxy S5

Thursday, October 16, 2014 ~ Late yesterday I picked up my new Samsung Galaxy S5 from Costco. I took advantage of their Platinum deal. In a few days Samsung’s newest phablet will be available  and I was planning to get it but at the last moment, I decided to go with the S5 because it had already been out for six months, giving all the techie types plenty of time to work out the bugs. So, this morning I’m on YouTube watching videos on how to make the best use of it. I found this 40-minute Techsmartt video of 50+ Tips & Tricks for the Samsung Galaxy S5 pretty helpful. I was most surprised to learn that this phone allows me to use a standard 128 GB SD card versus a standard phone Micro SD card. When I purchased the phone I had the sales rep install a SanDisk Ultra Plus microSDHC UHS-1 32 GB card with adapter. Had I watched this video beforehand, I would have opted for the standard SD card. One important feature is that the Home button is a fingerprint scanner, enabling safer online transactions.

Some of features I found particularly interesting and worth using are:

  • One Handed Operation
  • Adapt Display
  • Download Booster
  • Apps to SD
  • 5:28 Audio Zoom
  • Adapt Sound (calibrate your headphones for best quality sound)
  • Geo News
  • Increased Touch Sensitivity
  • Quick Connect
  • Emergency Mode
  • Smart Stay
