It’s hard to imagine that the time has come for my all-time favorite annual event in the world, the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, held at Balloon Fiesta Park in Albuquerque, New Mexico to come to a close. I went to bed last night doubtful there would be a final mass ascension today. The weather forecast called for high winds this morning. Sure enough, I was awakened by AIBF text message updates informing me of yellow flags and finally that the mass ascension was cancelled.
While Fiesta officials encouraged the pilots to tether their balloons in a static display, it wouldn’t be something I would want them to do under such wind conditions. As far as I’m concerned they should have called the event change official tailgate time!
I’ve already begun my countdown to next year’s event, mainly because I know will be attending in support of more than one worthwhile cause and crewing for one of the top female balloon pilots in the world! I plan to make the 2015 Balloon Fiesta my best New Mexico special event experience ever!
