I’ve been a member of a variety of online communities since 1989. While those platforms were considered “social” for their time, they did not compare to the social media platforms available today. The one thing that rings true in participating in any of the social forms of online communication and interaction is that when all is said and done, people long to connect with people in person. In 2008 I had a research project which called for me to open Facebook and Twitter accounts. I had already had my fill of online socializing and was planning to pull away completely but alas I didn’t. Now that I’m spending much of my time in one of America’s destination resort meccas, I am planning some special events to encourage the folks I’ve communicated with online to meet up with me in person for some fun, edutainment, healthy R&R. In this section are the social media platforms where I can be found today.
