Founded in Galway Ireland in 2007 by American-Irish entrepreneur Mike Feerick, ALISON (Advance Learning Interactive Systems Online) is an e-learning provider and academy credited as being history’s first MOOC.
ALISON has a mission to enable anyone, anywhere, at any time, to develop basic, certified, education and workplace skills, using free, online, interactive, multimedia learning technology.
Contrary to other MOOC providers with close links to American third level institutions such as MIT and Stanford University, the majority of ALISON students are located in the developing world with the fastest growing number of users in India. As of August 2015 ALISON has over 5 million registered users in 200 countries.
