Wednesday, August 6, 2014 ~ For some unknown reason I woke up at 4:00 a.m. thinking about webcam avatars. The thoughts were so compelling I had to turn on my desktop system and explore Google “webcam avatar software” search results. Near the top was a link to a sizable Indiegogo campaign for FaceRig software, a Digital Alter-Ego Framework, built for communication and entertainment. Raising $307,015 (256% of goal), the campaign ended on February 5, 2014. Because FaceRig combines real-time based tracking technology with real-time animation, I’m interested in using it as a storytelling tool for fairy tale video productions. I’m excited to see how the product development and launch unfold.
In browsing the software company website I learned that they are nearing release of the beta edition to the public. They plan to release it later this month or early in September. In May 2014 an avid gamer posted this video review of the software alpha edition on YouTube.
